Every root in the earth traces back to our birth and where we're going.
CD: A Series of Clicks and Beeps Demo
Credits: Brooke Murphy & Jason Steinberg

    Story Behind the Song
Jason wrote some stanzas to a poem and Brooke wrote music to them, then collaborated on the rest of the lyrics back in California in 1995-ish. This song is now on the demo, which was recorded in Minnesota at Integral Studios in May of 2003.

    Lyrics
oh climb on up, i'll meet you halfway
oh climb on up, i'll race you back down
    underneath my—
    da…

all the trees i have known
all the seeds that have grown into something
    every root in the earth
traces back to our birth and where we're going

    summer leaves turn brown
autumn blows them to the ground
there's no place i'd rather be
    than underneath my—

all the shapes i have seen
all the colors of green make me wonder
    every ring is a sign
of the time we've left behind - and makes us younger

    summer leaves turn brown
autumn blows them to the ground
there's no place i'd rather be
    than underneath my—

oh climb on up, i'll meet you halfway
oh climb on up, i'll race you back down
    underneath my—
oh climb on up, i'll meet you halfway
oh climb on up, i'll race you back down
    underneath my—

    summer leaves turn brown
autumn blows them to the ground
there's no place i'd rather be
    than underneath my--
    summer leaves turn brown
autumn blows them to the ground
    there's no place i'd --
