Story Behind the Song
Man... This is just sayin' like how (mostly back in like 4th grade and such) but how you can say, "Oh man i went scuba diving today!" and that person who wants to be oldschool is like "Dude, I've been scuba diving since i was like 2 years old, man..." And you know they're exagerating, but it's all good, and so this song's kinda just talking about that, ha. Enjoy
Lyrics
Verse 1
Yeup, everybody wants to be "Old-school".
If be good, if be bad; it is true stoned as fact.
Fact that I have been here compels my rule.
Big ol' fact. Fact of lives, that one gets gettier, long
after arrives.
I take to eye the Queen of Scotts,
And those crazy lords of the feudal lots.
"I'm a knight, so clear to see,
Cause back in the day, so was my pappy!"
Pre-Chorus
But it's ok. x2
I realize I like it anyway.
It's ok. x2
To say I was mud before dirt met rain.
Chorus
Because I guess this yearning to be before,
Is just built into us and we ignore.
So if they brag, I'll try not to hate.
Think "he's kinda' odd, but I'll relate."
When all is said, and done scratches his head,
I'll just live with what I know,
Put it in song, and let it go.
Verse 2
And still relates in present day,
With Bush and Kennedy and family name.
But those are the biggy's, the easily noted.
How about the tiny's the ones not so bloated.
Like "I've watched the Simpsons since 3rd grade.
I could quote every episode that's ever been made."
And "I just heard a band called High Anarchy!"
"Yeah... I saw them live-local in 'Ninety three."
Pre-Chorus
Chorus
Interlude
And love the gift to be oldschool
Be bad. Be good. Be from the hood.
