Story Behind the Song
This track comes from a film score I wrote for a 15 minute documentary about Wally Funk, one of the original Mercury 13 women astronaut candidates who participated in America's initial astronaut training program in the '60s. The film was screened with my score at the Dallas Film and Video Festival as well as the USA Film Festival (also in Dallas) in the spring of 2001. I composed the eleven-minute score that January in roughly two days, assembled players from a mix of faculty and students I knew from college, and rehearsed and recorded the music in less than an hour, using an old classroom at my alma mater Pomona College as a studio. Joseph Brennan, a fine composer in his own right, engineered the recording and helped me edit and mix the music using ProTools.
