Story Behind the Song
One night I was home and my phone rang. It was the mother of a good friend of mine calling and she asked me to write a song for her daughter's wedding. She claimed that her daughter always wanted an original song for her wedding that included her name and husbands' name in the lyrics and asked if I had anything.
What makes this interesting is a few things. One, I'm still not sure what made her ask me? At the time I hadn't put anything out and my song writing was still in it's "hobby" infancy. Two, I had just finished remarking to myself that I was in a writing slump and hadn't come up with anything good in about three months. No sooner than I had said it, the phone rang and it was Tara's mom.
I got off of the phone and prayed one of the ugliest prayers I have ever prayed. I asked the Lord, and I quote, "Okay man, whatcha got?". No sooner than I spun around to my keyboard, I had a melody in my head and went with it. For the next two nights I was up until 3:00 AM finishing the song - but couldn't come up with a lyric to save my life. I called my friend Carlyn and asked her to come up with something. Carlyn (a poet and skilled pianist in her own right) wrote the lyrics for the song having never heard the music. I took her words and made them fit my music and performed the song at Tara and LaTroy's wedding - using their names in the final verse.
Once I decided to add the song to my studio recording, I knew we had to match the "wonder" of the original. Rick brought in Nova to sing the duet with me and Nova added her usual magic. Things like the opening two string bass pull and dramatic pause melody changes are the magic that Rick brings to every song he produces. In my opinion (next to Solomon's song) this is the best song on the album.
If I ever get to do a video, this song will be among the first. I imagine the band and I wearing "Matrix" style clothes
This song has been used in several weddings since it was recorded. Tara often reminds me that she was first (smile).
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
Today I stand, to pledge my love, my life forever. Take my hand and walk with me. Let's start our lives together.
[Bridge]
Join me love.
Your heart like a dove.
Our journey's begun.
As two become one.
[Hook]
Have U Ever Fallen N Love?
There's nothing sweeter I can think of.
When it's right it's sent from above.
Above...
[Verse 2]
My love for you will never grow old, but stronger every day. the word of God will stregnthen and guide us in all our ways.
[Bridge]
As years come and go.
This you should know.
My one guarantee.
I will always love thee.
[Hook]
Have U Ever Fallen N Love?
There's nothing sweeter I can think of.
When it's right it's sent from above.
Tell me have you ever fallen N love?
(repeat, vamp)
