Story Behind the Song
The Stain was written about a woman who in a fit of rage, violently murdered her husband.
The guilt of her act eventually drove her to madness. Burdened with her insanity, Mary could no longer distinguish reality from illusion. Or was it real?
Lyrics
Have you seen what I’ve become?
Sin’s the reason why I’m here
Caustic images before you
Have I returned as all you fear?
Fear me Mary, I’ve come for you
Do you feel nothing at all?
Hands were cold, darkened heart beats so greedy
Left too much of my blood stains on your wall
Do your demons laugh at you,
While you wish them all away
Have you left all your own clear conscience
Buried in my shallow grave
Hit the lights, ponder the meaning
Dream I’m floating down the hall
You deny all your wrong when you’re guilty
Just to smear all my blood stains on your wall
No way out, no way out of here
Can Mary imagine it all?
No way out, no way out of here
And I am the blood on your wall
Do you sleep in the afternoon?
Dream surreal and half awake
Phantom cries of a lost apparition
Hear his bones begin to break
Damn you, Mary! I’m coming for you!
When the night begins to fall
Take your life for your own self virtue
You can’t smear your own blood stains on your wall
No way out, no way out of here
Can Mary imagine it all?
No way out, no way out of here
And I am the blood on your wall
No way out, no way out of here
Can Mary imagine it all?
No way out, no way out of here
And I am the blood on your
I’m on your wall
I’m on your wall
