With a $12.50 dollar Blue Stella Guitar and a cheap microphone ($8.29) I set out to do this authentic blues rattle on my acid program to show the lessons I have received from Matt Thorpe have worked for me. The tune/song is stereo and pans back and forth and really shows how well the Acid panning tools really works. I dedicate this song to Matt Thorpe for his patience with me and teaching me as he has done. Story Behind the Song
Question! If you have a dear friend that just kicks ass every time he picks up not only his guitar but any guitar and you want to do a tune/song for this person in appreciation (Dedication) for his time and effort in teaching you the in and outs of Acid & SoundForge pc recording techniques what is one to do?
I thought about this for a long damn time. I just couldn't see that there was any way my electric blues guitar would impress him due to my inferior skills not being of his talented caliber. So this is what I came up with....
I have an Old Blue Stella Guitar (type that in your browser) that was purchased new back in the early fifties for $12.50, ( Made by Harmony and Came with a lesson book, this is a "real" front porch guitar). Now what I figured was, that if I take this Old Blue Stella Guitar with its lousy action, (no steel neck reinforcement) and put a new set of strings on it and play it from deep within my heart & soul where I keep my friendship with the aforementioned guitarist I would be able to show my dear friend what wonderful things he has taught me by taking the bare bones track and applying what he has schooled me on in my Acid & SoundForge programs. Well That's exactly what I done.
Using absolutely no amps, electric guitars, only this one Old Blue Stella Guitar and a $10.00 microphone (cheapest I could find) I set out on what I considered an exam that I am to turn into my instructor! This project includes the following. Recording the rhythm and lyrics then the lead, volume panning, stereo panning, a slip trick (Matt's Trick), Hammering and Normalizing and a
trick or two I have picked up of my own to maintain this front porch sound!
Now what you are about to hear is a blues sound from our past (no drums, front porch style) that I have had in me for most of my years and just don't play much. The rhythm guitar is fun to play but tricky compared to the rhythms we play today. The lead guitar is not of today's standards, sloppy a tad, but hey, so is this Old Blue Stella. I wrote the lyrics yesterday for this jam. It's very special to me but then again a blues sound from our past is always special to me. (very simple).
Last but not least. Not only do I still have that Old Blue Stella Guitar, I have the wardrobe jacket for the era as well!
So now please listen to this new tune that has all my heart and soul in it that I proudly present to our one and only
Mr. Matt Thorpe! Thanks Matt for all your help, from the bottom of my heart!
Lyrics
"Whata' Fool"
Some sucka done stole my mojo
he gots away with my woman too
some sucka done run off with my mojo
that fool he took that woman too
what that sucka don't know is
that mojo won't keep her true
Some lowdown dirty sucka stole my moneys
he run off with my woman too
some sucka he done stole all my moneys
he took my woman too
what that sucka don't know
that there moneys gonna give him the blues
Some fool done stole my Cadillac (I just waxed it)
he took my woman too
some sucka stole my nice black shiny Cadillac
he run off with my woman too
what that sucka don't know
there's three payments on that Cadillac past due
Now that dirty lowdown sucka stole my guitar
now I can't even play when I sing my blues
that lousy sucka stole my only guitar
he gots my woman too
what that fool don't know is
that Blue Stella Guitar curse has him too
Now that sucka gots my Blue Stella Guitar
and he gots that cheating woman too
that sucka gots all of my moneys
he gots my shiny black Cadillac car too
but what that sucka dont know is
he stole my bad luck mojo, Whata' Fool!
