A song about my Dad. Please excuse the mix. I am new at this and still struggling.
Credits: Lyrics and music written and performed by William Robinson

    Story Behind the Song
I had not seen my Dad for close to 20 years when I got the call he was gravely ill. I drove from Michigan to Nebraska to be there. He was in intensive care when I got there and really never woke up. There was one moment when I believe he tried to speak to me.This song is about what I experienced. I thought about this song for months. Then one day I sat down and wrote it. It took about 20 minutes. The recording was another story. I am a novice at this and have not been able to figure out how to mix well yet. So, the song is a little rough. I tried about 15 takes before I got this. And many hours trying to mix it. Mostly it is just a straight forward unmixed recording.

    Lyrics
    Shadows of My Mind

    verse
I stare into the face of the man I once new I try to see the man I called my Dad
The coal balck hair I hoped for now white and almost gone
The hand I held was weak that I remember was so strong

    Chorus

For all those years I knew him in the shadows of my mind
Like the faded photograph my Mama kept
I know there were some good days but my memory only saw
the whiskey and the times that were so bad

    verse
This Chapter in my life I knew would would soon be done
I knew I had to let the hurtin' go
I swore I'd always hate him for the things i knew he'd done
so how can I still love him I don't know
I looked into his milky eyes that use to be so blue
His lips were trembling as he tried to speak
I felt the hate deep in my heart turn to something knew
He closed his eyes and slept his final sleep

    Chorus

For all those years I knew him in the shadows of my mind
Like the faded photograph my Mama kept
I know there were some good days but my memory only saw
the whiskey and the times that were so bad

    verse
My eyes now see a young man who made some bad mistakes
He is the man I know is still my dad
The cold black hair is shining and his eyes are so deep blue
The memories in my mind would all be new

    Chorus

For all those years I knew him in the shadows of my mind
Like the faded photograph my Mama kept
I know there were some good days but my memory only saw
the whiskey and the times that were so bad
