My general dismay for the music scene at large. It's mostly left hand piano-dancin.' Drums, upright bass, piano and vocals.

    Story Behind the Song
Hm. Well, this song was written sometime after Eminem won a Grammy. Not that I ever cared about the Grammys. Or Eminem, for that matter. But I was filled with a sort of dread for the music world that I hadn't realized had been building up for so long. Maybe because Elton hugged him. I dunno. Anyway, I'm not as angry as this song might imply.

    Lyrics
    Duplicity

No I'm not wearing lipstick today
but you didn't mean that really
and if I wrote down all you'd say
    it would speak volumes

each disease I see on screen
    will surely make a fortune
    so I don't think I'm being mean
when I want my $8.50 back

    do they see
the shit left in their hands?
    or is the tragedy
    just lost on them?
    can I be
    better then that anyway?
    if it's fascinating
    it won't make a dime

    out run all the slaves
into the masters that they became
    cuz without communicating
they are the children that we estrange

I must seem a bitter kid
    through the vacuum of conceit
but let me tell you more bitter kids than me
    make hit singles every week

so blame it on white rappers
    blame it on sweet MTV
I don't think they think it matters
    we buy their singles anyway

    do they see
can the crowds surprise the gods?
    it's duplicity
to pretend that it's not near us
    can it be
    like this for another year?
    scandals and hypocrisy
    all to ease our fears
