Story Behind the Song
The song is "love song", I suppose. It's really about the frustratation of one person in a relationship that sees it as nearly mystical and the other who views feeling as something rather matter of fact. It was inspired by a line in a DH Lawrence novel (paraphrased) "he was like winter...like a young, smiling wolf"
Lyrics
I have always heard
Among other words
That blue is mystic.
Maybe that is why
The blaze of his eyes
Is unresisting.
My love's simplistic.
So tell me,
Come on tell me
Do you mean what you say?
So come on, tell me
that your needs are
Greater than your words-
Drain the colour blue
Right out of the sky,
Trace it across your lips.
Taste its sweetness in your mouth.
Don't say forever,
Don't say a word.
Taste the breathless needing
Feeling from heaven.
Pay an expensive toll
To take a leisurely stroll
In my own private nightmare.
Pass the curtains drawn
Whispering a song
That I used to sing there.
So tell me
Come on tell me
Have your hands found their voice?
So come on tell me, show me
That you need me right now.
Drain the colour blue
Right out of the sky.
Trace it across your lips,
Taste its sweetness in your mouth.
Don't say forever,
Don't say a word,
Just taste this breathless bleeding
Feeling from heaven.
I have always heard
Among other words
That blue is mystic.
So maybe that's why
The blaze of his eyes...
Make me wonder,
Make me wonder if he knows
How to live?
