Story Behind the Song
Three days after my friend killed herself I received a letter from her. She was in love with me and I never knew it.....
I'll never forget her. She was so beutiful... All the men wanted to f**k her and all of the women despised her for her beutey. I was attracted to her pain. She was my friend and I took her for granted as everyones else in her life did the same. I cannot express to you how much I miss her.... In so many ways she touched my life and I can honestly say that I am a better person for having known her. Ironically this song was recorded in January on one of Wisconsin's coldest days. Without any heat in the studio, (the furnace broke down), I laid down the off-time and bizzarre guitar tracks to this song. Years later I realize the painful and eerie similarity to Sarah's life. How cold and lonely she must have felt in the final moments of her life. Her hands must have shook and she was probably numb with fear and I'm sure in her eyes she could see her last few breaths take shap in the cold air of her bedroom.
All of our lives we are told to look out for # 1. We are told to look out for # 1 as nobody else will. There's nothing more tru than that...... What I can't figure out is why the first thing people say when somebody kills themselves is that they thought of nobody but themselves. They are quick to point out how many lives are affected because that person decided to end their life. It seems to me that when somebody kills themselves they are only looking out for # 1. I still miss my friend Sarah.
Lyrics
Taken From A Letter
What a fitting end to a life
couldn’t have come much sooner
they say it ain’t right, but what’s the point?
who really cares?
I don’t understand why, and it makes me cry
at the loss, of you
I look inside and I find
the trying of a lost soul
No one really knew, and who are you?
to pass judgment, on me?
There’s several ways to go, and I don’t know
who, what, or why
And I say goodbye to the pain in my life
in this letter addressed to you
there’s no blame for the pain, and the shame
in ithis letter addresssed to you.
So I say goodbye, and maybe one day we’ll laugh
this whole thing away
Goodbye
goodbye
goodbye
