Story Behind the Song
Track number five. Not by coincidence but by choice. Originally titled “I Call Home”, I changed it to “Eleven” after reflecting back and realizing that my father died in room number 511. At eleven o’clock the night he died, I received a message from my mother telling me that he had moved on. These lyrics are all true.
Lyrics
Eleven
Papa worked himself into an early grave
it wasn’t him, his body just gave
now he’s gone and everything’s changed
chorus
But I wish I could live
back in the days when I was a kid
and I wish I could go
back to the place, I call home
Momma was poor, so she sold everything
packed what was left, them moved away
now she’s gone and my life’s changed
chorus
My brothers and sisters, live far away
no one ever calls, and I find it all a shame
I don’t know them, and they don’t know me
chorus
Me...I live my life, with my six string
you know I ain’t rich, but at least I’m happy
I take the pain, and I play it all away
chorus
