A newborn! Very mood driven, introspective, and personal. My muses were having a very reflective, melancholy day when they gave me this. A simple arrangement of piano and vocals.

    Story Behind the Song
Sat down at the piano one Saturday afternoon, and this melody floated out. The lyrics were much trickier. They came to me piece by piece during a span of several weeks, but I think that it all came together nicely. As always, the lyrics are up to your own interpretation :o) And I apologize for the low-quality keyboard I had to use. I've only started teaching myself to play the piano recently, so I haven't been able to get a good keyboard yet. But hopefully that'll change sometime in the future. Enjoy.

    Lyrics

    "Smell of Summer"

    Are your eyes closed?
    I envy you
Can you turn off your empathy like a light switch?
You fling your words like they're just air
    Stone-heavy, they weigh me down
Why am I always left here?
Sinking and picking up the pieces
I keep waiting to wake up
I keep waiting to fall asleep
    But

Do you think the smell of summer can soak through
    the nightmare we've been living
    since you
    And in case you forget
    An addiction is a promise
And you've made a lot of promises to me

    But anyways

The clouds can't disappear without you here
When did I become an option
    And not what you needed
Breathless and scared, I call for you
But the days keep falling around me
    My calendar claims it's spring
    But it hasn't convinced me
The last of your faith sailed away
with the last of my patience
    You leave me trembling sometimes
    Your aftermath
    But

Do you think the smell of summer can soak through
    the nightmare we've been living
    since you
    And in case you forget
    An addiction is a promise
And you've made a lot of promises to me
    Promises to me

Do you think the smell of summer can soak through
    the nightmare we've been living
    since you
    And in case you forget
    An addiction is a promise
And you've made a lot of promises
    to me
