Story Behind the Song
I think Satchmo should be canonized. But I think the church frowns on his "type" (no, I don't mean black people). Too bad! I took Fletch's "Satchelmouth Baby" and the tradition of reefer songs as models for this one. Cass Preston, from Tucson, AZ, plays trumpet here. Like many of the songs on Kitchen Swing, this one is based on a true story or two. Buy the record so you can hear George Zissner's clarinet solo!
