Story Behind the Song
The Police of Vancouver, BC, Canada turned on it's own citizens during the APEC summit protests. Violent Deterrent is a statement regarding what our civil rights are and how quickly those preceived rights are revolked.
Lyrics
Violent Deterrent
Verse 1
The cops came to kill the day
Dispersing crowds with the pepper spray
Cuffed n' stuffed for speaking truth
Confuse the views, Destroy the proof.
Rivers run red, but who really cares?
Push on the prices of our foreign shares
Promoting economics over human rights!
So on we go with the freedom fights
Chorus
AGAINST-The Ever Present Violent Deterrent.
Verse 2
Avoid embarrassment, that was the plan.
Ignore atrocities in foreign lands.
A dictator, rules through war
Pure massacre of East Temor
We raised our voice for those oppressed
Now you are too, who would have guessed?!
Foreign gunmen had you in their sites!
To put an end to the freedom fight
AGAINST - The Ever Present Violent Deterrent.
Verse 3
My lands leader is making light
Of my nations most important right.
To always have the right to choose.
Without fear, express your views.
Yet here we are, set to ignore
Why brothers die in World War.
Who upholds these things today?
No time at all, it's taken all away!
AGAINST -The Ever Present Violent Deterrent.
Bridge
Now you know that they think like that
Repress your voice with a baseball bat.
An' now you know that they think like that
Say what they want when your heads to a gatt.
Verse 4
Promote programs to scare you straight.
Your rights of recourse deteriorate
And to our party came those CSIS spies
A moments notice forces mobilized
It's just how plain that they're all insane
These nations jockey for the nuclear reign
More than ever we must confront the lies
Oppressive movements to which we must rise
AGAINST - The Ever Present Violent Deterrent.
