Like zydeco itself, this a another hybrid, a celebration of the style with yet a little more Caribbean influence added.

    Story Behind the Song
The lyrics describe the motivation: after hearing Queen Ida on the radio I determined to see her live next time she came to town. when I did, I danced for the first time in about 8 years, then went backstage and made friends. Since then Filé Gumbo has opened a couple show for the Queen, and marc Bristol has sat in with both her and her son Freeze on scrubboard.

    Lyrics
    Calypso Zydeco
    © Marc Bristol BMI

Once was a time that I did not dance
It lasted for eight long years
    This was the disco seventies
We hiding in the mountains, shedding out tears
But then one night on the radio
I heard Queen Ida play the zydeco
I said to myself man you got to go
Kick up your heels on that old dance floor
    Calypso zydeco
Get yourself out on that old dance floor
Get down and boogie, let yourself go
    Calypso zydeco

One day I read in the newspaper
Is coming to my town a zydeco band
That was the day that I jumped for joy
Whoopin’ hollerin’ and clappin’ my hands
Down to the big town I did go
There they was having a fais do do
I got down and boogie’d to the zydeco
Man it was a flat out wonderful show
    Calypso zydeco
Get yourself out on that old dance floor
Get down and boogie, let yourself go
    Calypso zydeco

Medicine is something to make you feel good
And music the kind that I choose
The way it works best is to go all the way
Get out on the dance floor and make you some moves
You want to feel better then you should go
Down to the town to the fais do do
Get down and boogie to the zydeco
You ain’t gonna feel too bad no more
    Calypso zydeco
Get yourself out on that old dance floor
Get down and boogie, let yourself go
    Calypso zydeco
