This version was taken from the audio of a videotaping of our practice. Therefore, the quality is not so great, but gives a fairly good lo-fi sound. (An additional note: the video camera we took the audio from is over a decade old.) The lyrics were completely improvised at that time, as was the musical structure. There are all sorts of deep concepts behind this song. I suggest you look up "Gordian Knot" and see why that was the title.

    Story Behind the Song
This song was originally composed for a string quartet, and we decided to transpose it for guitar and bass, and making it much more intense. The main concept of the song is taking two series of three notes each, and simply playing off of them. In the twenty minutes of the song, there is a constant struggle between the sonorous, mellow moments and the dissonant, harsh ones.

    Lyrics
(Our hero): Candle scents exposing lies/Encouraging the children to die/Enforcing sadness upon you and I/You were never satisfied/You said, "We're stuck," I said, "We're fucked"/We were running out of luck/Broken hearts/Broken promises, broken bones/Why do I cry when I'm alone?/There was once a well/That was built by itself/It didn't need our water to grow/But in the winter, in drowned in snow/What has become of us?/Murder on the hill/The poor boy they killed

(Narrator): There will be a boy/There is a boy/There was a boy/He was not me/He loves the billions/There will be a wedding today/And he'll be carrying the ring/All the way home/There is a house/It is a home/I have never ever seen a bigger one/It has no walls to divide us

(Our hero): There is no you, there is no I, there is only us/And somehow that makes us stronger/There will be better days to come/But when will it?/I am alone

    (The antagonist): When?

(Our hero): There is no one that breathes/Just quite like me/Except for maybe you/What have we become?/What will we become?/Broken hearts and broken sentences/Broken English in our dialogue/And so here we go again/There will be another song to dance to/But I will sit against the wall/And flood the pyramids along the Nile

(Narrator): Another boy lays on the floor/His friends wait at the door/There's something more

(Our hero): I will be free

(The antagonist): When will that be?

(Our hero): I lost my keys/I lost my friend/His broken heart will be healed today for us/I don't want to see him die/I will be free/For that's how I choose to be/I want love, I want peace, I want unity/And a place where no one dies

(The girl): Let's move there then/And scream again

(Our hero): Broken hearts and broken bones, broken sentences on the phone/Why do I cry when I'm alone?/There's nothing but you, there's nothing but me, a fortnight without you in one single dream

(Narrator): The sun sets/The sun rises/The sun sets/The sun rises

(Our hero): And there will be another place for us/A place that we will be able to design

(Narrator): The candle scent leaves the room/And finds its way into a building/And there will be another legend before we go/About our hero finding his way home/"Dear God," he said/"What has happened to my house?/Now there is nothing but a pile of wood"/And so he cried all alone/Only memories he had of being a boy/Rolling down the hill/And only the clothes he wore on his back/And a candle and a ring/And so he took the pile of wood/And built his floating coffin/He painted it his favorite color; green/As our hero gave another scream

(Our hero): We are the cowardly, we are the brave/We are the liberated and the enslaved/We are the enlightened and the enraged/But above all else, we are humans for God's sake
