Story Behind the Song
This is a song I wrote after the ending of a long relationship as part of a trip hop rock opera I was writing at the time. Alas, the rock opera never happened, but the song survived. From day one, I wanted Hillary Hightower to sing the song, but it took me over a year to put everything together and do it justice. Fortunately she was available, as were A.J. Potter and t spigot's Gilmore. This song is, by far, one of my most significant personal achievements as a musician, and I'm very happy to finally have the completed track available for all to hear.
Lyrics
i can't find a way of getting through to you
i can't find a way to tell if what you say is true
there's a voice inside my head that tells me it's okay
to think about tomorrow and wish it all away
once again you've torn apart everything we've built
you claim that i've deceived you but you're the one who quit
you've hurt me twice and you dare come back to me
you are my sunshine, my serendipity
oh have pitty have pitty on a poor man's soul
take him back one more time give him back control
have pitty have pitty on a woman's broken heart
stay away from her life the life you've torn apart
i understand what you want me to say
that all's forgiven our troubles went away
that's not the case this time there's someone else
who'll treat me with respect a man who makes sense
have pitty have pitty on a poor man's soul
take him back one more time give him back control
have pitty have pitty on a woman's broken heart
stay away from her life the life you've torn apart
