Story Behind the Song
This song basically is about how I was percieved in a previous relationship. It is astonishing how a person can view you as the greatest person in the world one second, and as the worst the next. I suppose most everyone is guilty of this at some point in their lifetime, but it still doesn't make it easy to understand.
I came up with the title of the song way before any other part. In midst of arguing, I was being scolded by my girlfriend at the time about being a hypocrite. Yet, she constantly bragged about how sweet I was...a gentleman, so to speak. It was in this conversation that I asked her..."So, basically I am just a hypocritical gentleman, huh?" And then I thought to myself...that would make for an interesting song. Later that evening, Hypocritical Gentleman was born.
Lyrics
Slow down your role just a bit
and listen to what i have to say
it wont be long before you're coming home
and i'm the one who's playing games
Go ahead! role your window down...
let the breeze blow through your hair,
and scream out loud "let freedom ring"
and make yourself believe that i really care
Chorus
you think i'm crazy
you think i'm cool
you think i'm crazy
you think i'm a fool
you think i'm a hypocritical gentleman
once upon a long time ago
we used to be two peas in a pod
but nowadays when we stop to speak,
it's a miracle if we even talk
because everyone knows how you are
everyone knows you by name
yet, you can still sit right there
and not feel the least bit ashamed
Chorus
