Story Behind the Song
I wrote this about the guy we all knew in high school... although I'll have to admit that some of it is about me
Lyrics
The cops chase us around on a Friday night,
There's not much crime here, and I guess that's alright.
I've got a girlfriend, we watch movies on the tube,
It's pretty cool except my parents, are sitting here too.
...in my little town
I'm playin' football, and I got a letter jacket too,
I wear it everywhere so people know I'm cool.
I cry when we lose, but I party when we win,
I'm always the star, you see, I'm the best that's ever been.
...in my little town
Soon I'll go to college,
Things may get a little strange.
I'll admit I'm kinda nervous,
I'm scared to have to change.
Who will pack my lunch?
Or make sure I'm okay?
What if I'm not happy?
Why can't I just stay?
It's 20 years gone by and my kids they go to school,
Although I try, it seems they never think I'm cool.
I know I'd show them, if I only got the chance,
That's why this Friday, I'm signing up, to chaperone their dance.
My high school year book it could use a little glue,
I've got some memories, but those are fading too.
I've got a good job, I've tasted fortune and fame,
But what I wouldn't give for just one more high school football game.
it's my little town.
it's my little town.
