    Story Behind the Song
I wrote this close to 2 years after his death when I had just moved to Calgary. I was walking in my new neighborhood and noticed that the leaves were dying and fall was near. I was swept back to those tragic days following his death. I remember those days more clearly than any others in my life. His death shocked the school; he was one of the smartest kids at the school and definitely one of the most liked. He hung out with all the groups from the skids to the band. I was hanging out with his best friends in the days to follow and it was hard to see them crushed so badly. He had everything, a great family, long summers sailing on the pacific and the potential to do anything he wanted in the future. High School can be tough on everyone, he didnt have any problems at school, but in his mind he saw nothing but problems. He couldn’t deal with his depression and felt he needed to escape forever.

    Lyrics
    The leaves turn brown
+ Start to fall to the ground
    Hes sick of this life
    Sick of waiting around
    Hes only sixteen
    No longer has any dreams
Not even sure of what life means anymore

    It started a month ago
    Now the feelings have grown
What could life hold for him?
    Cause he doesnt know
    Nothings gone right today
    + She still wont say
    If that is the case
It doesn’t matter when he goes

    Cant stand the pain anymore
Its driving him down to the floor
    Wont take anymore risks
Cause every time he gets dissed
This time he swears he'll do it
His lifes as good as through with
    Never meant to hurt anyone
    The sadness has just begun

If only he knew all the people left behind
All the pain that brought those tears to their eyes
His loss is still around even two years gone by
Every now and then I ask the question why?

I’ll remember those next few days
As if they were the last
Some of those faces have faded away
    But together we’ll remember
    Those days gone by
And the boy we once knew
    With all knowing green eyes

If only he knew all the people left behind
All the pain that brought those tears to their eyes
Holding on to all the strength he never found
A friend that once was now six feet underground
