This is a new song that Pete wrote too late to be recorded for the album, but it feels important right now. We finally recorded this last Friday, April 25th, in Aric's dorm at UMass Amherst. Pete sang and played the guitar, while the yelling was done by Aric, Alex, Sarla, Kenny, Pete, and Melissa. |

Lyrics
I passed the Walk for Diabetes today on my way to the Walk for Peace
And was dismayed at the thought of what each would accomplish and the prospect of what I`d see
Because with each passing day it`s the man at the top that makes me lose faith in democracy
And builds a fear that I can do nothing except to repeat a history
When thousands died
And opposition was too late
To save those lives
Makes me wonder if there`s a new way
Still two sides
And the motives feel the same
On both sides
Makes me wonder if there`s a new way
And when the crowd started to chant:
The people!
United!
Can never be defeated!
The people!
United!
Can never be defeated!
All I could think was:
The people!
Defeated!
Can never be united!
The people!
Defeated!
Can never be united!
Feels like two hands
Pounding the same wall from opposite sides
Neither makes a dent
(It`s not that they cancel each other out
Neither one is strong enough)
But the exuberance on the faces of every person I could see
And the hope of the girl I was there with instilled some hope in me
And I realized that today I could have stayed home but instead I did something
So I`ll still pound walls, and I`ll still seek truth, and I`ll still pursue democracy
