Story Behind the Song
Despite the title’s reference to the tango, this is a standard one-step — but a good raggy one. To get the euphoric feel of the music, just begin walking in time with smooth gliding steps, keeping your weight on the balls of your feet — with or without a partner. You will then be doing the one-step and experiencing firsthand one of the joys of the ragtime era. The title refers to tea dances which were popular late-afternoon affairs at tea time where dancers could tango and one-step with their tea and crumpets — and their partners. What an era!
