Story Behind the Song
At the end of a long drum recording session with my old band in Paul Caputo's (drummer's) garage, George (our sax player, who was running the mixing board -- I was playing along with Paul on a dummy synth track to give him a frame of reference) informed us that there was only a little bit of tape left. Paul said, "Wait, record this!" So he started playing, putting as many messed up changes of tempo & meter as possible. Then he said, "THERE. ENOUGH CHANGES for you Eddie? Try & put some music to THAT!
HA HA HA HA HA...." The challenge was to write something that went along with this drum track, that fit, but also could actually sound like a real song. But I DID it! I followed every single little nuance he put in there. Every last one. Nailed it, including the little spots at the end which you thought we'd recorded over...
If you listen closely, you'll hear where Paul dropped one of his sticks & had to get a new one & go on...
Be sure to listen to the end where a cute little surprise awaits...
