Story Behind the Song
I was thinking about those barriers which many of us have (especially in Scotland) about being ourselves openly. I was thinking that at first the inhibitions start being imposed from outside, but then we can often keep those critical voices or spectres alive internaly and do the job on ourselves.
Optomistically I was thinking that once we start the journey to simply "be ourselves" that there is an inevitability that we will succeed. So it's a happy little song then.
I wrote screeds of lyrics for this and I thank Jeep for his advice in scrapping all but the core, and for organising all that lead guitar so well.
It was all done very quickly, so that it is more a demo than a finished product, but I do think that it has it's moments.
Lyrics
Turning
Once there were many, now watch them fall
See their blank faces, as they wait, for their fall
All that yearning, all those hidden years
But now I am turning
To be revealed
I said I, shall be revealed
Like a river finds his ocean, and the ocean pulls him in
I, shall be revealed
These spectres loose their power
As I three times speak their names
Here I stand before them
But now, I feel no shame
I say, these are my beliefs, these are my aims
These are my beliefs, these are my aims
All that yearning, all those hidden years
But now I am turning
To be revealed
I said I, shall be revealed
Like a river finds his ocean, and the ocean pulls him in
I, shall be revealed
