Story Behind the Song
Written on Christmas Eve in about five minutes. Recorded in an afternoon. This songwriting thing is painfully easy at times, less so at others.
Lyrics
All your friends, they’ve scattered to a million places
Chase your dreams to the end, but don’t look for familiar faces
Take the words they send, keep them safe now and forever
But do you think you could lend your hand to me so we can change the weather?
I didn’t think that you would
I never thought that you should
Who left the light on this time? It wasn’t me.
Said I was right on this time. How could it be?
Looking at the dreams that I can finally see
Who left the light on this time?
Time ticks by, it’s going faster with every day now
And you ask why, but no one’s ever gonna tell you how
Look me in the eye and tell me we can’t make it better
You can’t lie, I need your hand so we can change the weather
I didn’t think that you would
I never thought that you should
Who left the light on this time? It wasn’t me.
Said I was right on this time. How could it be?
Look at all these things that I can finally see
Who left the light on this time?
It wasn't me.
