Nostalgia incarnate. Old friends and discovery, growing up, growing old -- remembering. Very folksy rocky -- a little bluesy -- deceptive in it's "sing-song" quality -- rather like Theatre of the Absurd on acoustic guitar.

    Story Behind the Song
This is about my growing up -- it's a coming of age kinda thing, I suppose. I will not reveal the secret behind the song here, although it is rather amusing. Guess you'll have to ask me in person, huh?

    Lyrics
    Twilight

    My family moved in '79
I left 7 years of my life behind me
A brand new house, a neighborhood
    Concrete driveway lying
    Where the streetlamp stood
    Suburban children greetin' me --
    Derek, Jimmy, Larry,
And his little chubby brother --
    His name was Dusty
That was when my life had begun
    Six years of playing
Like birds in the sun --
Dusty was a Weeble, but he'd always fall down
Jimmy and Derek were laughers --
    Larry was the clown
    Hurricane David, swimmin' pools
    Playing hide-n-seek at midnight
    When we had no rules
    Baseball cards and cigarettes --
    Walkin' through empty gardens --
    Huh, no fruit yet
    Climbing trees with everyone --
    We sang together
Like birds in the sun --
You know we'll always have fun
    Saturday afternoon was the same
Running through the forest behind the houses
    Playing new games
    Like jump the river,
    Let's live in a tree
We didn't notice anybody was laggin' behind
    Where was Dusty?
Where he went we'll never know
But it was suppertime callin' us
    So we had to go
Twilight's blanket made us run --
    We flocked together
Like birds in the sun --
You know we'll always have fun
    Stickball Sunday, pickin' fights --
Larry came to tell us that
His brother had been missin' since last night
    Search parties, telephone call
You gotta realize that when the bough breaks The cradle will fall
Rainy days with Dusty gone --
    We huddled together
    Like birds in the sun
    Teacher teach us to behave
Strangers greet us, so we run into our cave
    Tender years have slipped away
Sleep tonight and never see the day
It's been ten years since Dusty's death
    Out, out brief candle --
    But you got no breath
Larry and his family moved away
    Derek got married last year,
    And hell if I'd stay
    Macho men in Tuffskin jeans
    We were never sheltered
    From what could have been
    Now in my memory,
    We still have fun
And I'll always remember the days when I was
A bird in the sun --
You know we'll always have fun
