Story Behind the Song
Chuck wrote the music and lyrics for this song in mid 1999 after being challenged by a friend to write a love song without the word 'love' in it. He recorded it the following year in the sweltering heat of an Alberta summer, in his cramped flat below his crazy neighbour. (If you listen closely, you can hear her stomping.) He then asked Jamie to sing something haunting between the verses, which she did. The guest guitarist, playing the great solo, is Todd Lefever of The Hollow.
Lyrics
You see me, I see you
In everything, I hold on to your ghost
These feelings, I'm feeling
All but one, the one that you wanted most
I told her, seek shelter
In familiar places, and things that she held dear
She listened, not listening
But heard my words, and heard 'em loud and clear
Following directions
One right turn could bring you back right here
Can't have that, won't have that
Never could stand to have you near
