Story Behind the Song
Allan Hodge asked me to fit a pickup into a Troubadour Blondel cittern-guitar, with a view to ragtime playing. This is a the result of the pickup fitting, and a sort of baroque-rag written while checking out the guitar before sending it to him. I don't claim to play ragtime, and it's in my usual drop D tuning with the capo bringing the pitch up. The PUTW No 27 sensor is fitted to the main cross brace (not to on the top wood of the guitar) right in front of the bridge. It has been put through a Trace Elliott TAP-1 preamp with no EQ or notch applied, then a Yamaha mixer, again all set to neutral, and recorded on a Roland VS880EX digital recorder as a mono track. Preset effects 'Reverb' and 'Dual Compressor/Limiter' have been applied, both post-fade, both at 50 per cent send level, both with no tweaking. The compressor slightly emphasises the very rapid transient nail sounds on the strings - this is not so evidence using an acoustic amp direct.
