This is a song full of emotion, but don't let it fool you. It's no simple "crier". It has a slight middle eastern edge with evolving synth landscapes. The song is a "full-on" good listen with intense, building vocal drama and a driving, hard drumming finish. Turn it up!

    Story Behind the Song
    The music:

The music for this song was based on the poem "In The First" by James Boaz. James sent me the poem wanting me to put it to music. Well, I did, but then had too much trouble fitting the words to the melody. So, rather than edit the life out of his poem, I decided to write new lyrics for the music.

A snippit of "In The First" by James Boaz:

There's murder in your eyes tonight.
    You stare at me.
    Looks become daggers,
    Right to my heart.
No blood, no horror of a true death,
    But the intention to kill,
    All too mortal. . .

. . .Silence is a truth that now I can speak.
My love rests in quiet words,
Only I can whisper to myself.
The calm and pain upon me,
A time to heal will come.
    My blood will race,
    My heart will shine,
In a love of true regard.
    -James Boaz

    The lyrics:
In keeping with the theme of the poem, I tried to bring out the idea that we are so often too afraid to let something die (whether an idea, project, or even someone we love). But, from the ashes come green grass - time and time again. We just need to learn to trust the nature of things. . .

This song was written and recorded in the summer of 2002 in Denver, CO.

    Lyrics
    1st Verse:
    She's crumbling at the seams.
    Her energy displaced, no functionality.
Twenty men inspired would fail to hold this tower - in all futility.
    On a slate grey bed,
She still exists devoid of mobility.
On a flatline white only machines provide her energy.

    Chorus:
Crying out to her to give me life,
I command that she come back from the night.
I am blind unless she's in my sight.
I demand that she come back by my side.

    2nd Verse:
    Wandering in the night,
I can't replace her voice - it haunts me.
Waking in the light, I can't replace the loneliness next to me.
Walking through my mind; Stepping through each passing memory-
Wanting to know why I am the one left dead in reality.

    Chorus

(What do you want from me)
(What are you doing to me)
    (Why, Why, Why?)

Letting her fall can be so hard to do
Letting her fall can be so hard to do
Letting her fall can be so hard to do

    Chorus (repeated)
