Credits: Miriam Makeba and Nelson Mandela

    Story Behind the Song
In 1995, during the war of Jugoslavia, a multicultural organisation was formed in Leksand, Sweden. Two orchestras was formed -one MONDO MUZIKO , with band leader Ole Saxe, with the goal to offer salsa and afro music with joy and meaning. Many dance concerts for charity and humanity has been done since that. This was one of the first songs that flew from the inspiration of Ole.

    Lyrics
Makeba -Mandela Text och Musik: Ole Saxe

( Dedicated to the work and life of Miriam Makeba and Nelson Mandela )

In south Africa, ruled by white mans law, lived the people of song and laughter
In the black mans street, where the children play, suddenly there was great disaster

Ref: || Oh Makeba - Oh Mandela ||

From Sofiatown, came a beautiful nightingale singing songs of freedom
From the countryside, came a proud young man, with a vision to free the people

    Ref.

and the children sing in Soweto, crying out in pain and anger
and the mothers sing in soweto, praying that there sons will live

Now the nightingale flew to Italy, singing peacefully to all people
From her government, soon the sentence come, "stay away for good - we don't need you"!

    Ref.

Now the young man soon, became leader of all the working men in the goldmines
but the rulers still tried to capture him, he was known as the lone Black pimpernel

    Ref.

and the children sing in Soweto, allways keep the spirit high, so high
and the mothers sing in Soweto, heading for the light in the sky

Thirty years away, till the nightingale finally hear the call from Africa
All around the world, they would cherris her, so they helped her to gain her freedom

    Ref.

In the heat of the sun he worked all day, beating future and hope of rocks and clay
but the power of hate and venges they soon would vanish in bright forgiveness

    ref.

and the children sing in Soweto, bursting into joy and laughter
and the people sing in South Africa to make the dream come through
