This is the day He said would one day come... |
CD: New Pair of Shoes
Credits: Lyrics by Tim Glenn Music by Brian DeKam |
Story Behind the Song
One day back in November of 2001, I was getting ready to take a shower. I had a gig that night at a little coffee house at my church. This song just came to me. I wrote the lyrics in about ten minutes. That night, I surprised my band when I told them I wanted to try a song I had written that day. I performed the song and it immediately got a positive reaction. The guys in the band said: "Dude...you really have to include that song on your CD!"
Lyrics
VERSE 1
People talk of poverty like it’s some third world anomaly.
Something that we only see in late night broadcasts on TV.
Still our schools are wrought with violence and in the womb, there are babies dying.
Doesn’t that make us the poorest of the poor?
CHORUS
This is the day He said would one day come.
This is the way He said it’d one day be.
This is our chance to make a difference in this world.
Make a difference in this world.
You and me…we should be…praying.
VERSE 2
The church believes she’s Jesus’ bride whose wedding day won’t be denied.
“Strength in numbers!” that’s our cry, while non-believers stand outside.
And wonder why they don’t fit in, we’re quick to judge them for their sin,.
Doesn’t that make us the weakest of the weak?
CHORUS X 2
BRIDGE:
So perhaps it’s time we hit our knees, turned our faces toward the street.
Pray the Lord would give us peace, mercy to forgive our deeds.
For it’s not until we lift our hearts, He can repair the broken parts.
A heartache He can only mend, it’s time we gave it back to Him…this is the day!
CHORUS X 3
