Story Behind the Song
This song was written by an Australian named Shane Howard. It laments the treatment of the aboriginal people in his country. It strikes me because it is so similar to undeserved treatment of the Indians in this country (USA). Essentially kicking people out of their homes so others can profit by it.
Lyrics
Out here nothing changes,
Not in a hurry anyway,
You can feel the endlessness,
The color of the light of day,
We're talking about a chosen place,
They're going to sell in the market place,
Well just a minute now.
We're standing on,
CHORUS:
Solid Rock, Standing on Sacred Ground,
Living on, Borrowed time and the ways of change going down the line.
Right around the dawn of time,
The dream and all the game,
A proud people came,
The were looking for the promised land,
Running from the heart of darkness, looking for the heart of light.
Standing on...
CHORUS
Well, they were standing on the shore one day,
Saw the white sails in the sun,
Wasn't long before they felt the sting,
Of White Men, White Law, White Guns,
Don't tell me that it's justified,
'Cause somewhere, someone lied.
Someone Lied,
Someone Lied, Genocide.
And we're standing on
CHORUS
