Story Behind the Song
The song came quickly as I remembered my childhood. I was always getting in trouble for things I never did. This is a song about friendship; how precious it was to me, but how little it meant to another.
Lyrics
Do You Think of Me
We walked across the fields, trudging
Mud got in my shoes
And buttercups flew
Dewdrops on your windowpane
We talked of many things
Of lovers, competition,
What we’d try that day
The grass was tender, air was clean
Somebody flying simple airplanes
Buzzing through the clouds and pouring rain
Picking petals, wistful breezes
Floating by your
Sisters boyfriends house.
Chorus:
Do you think of me?
(Sunshine, the sound of laughter
and the playground echoes ever after)
Now that youre a grown up doll?
(Is it loyalty? Is it all that it should be?)
One day you had your friends,
The next, they scattered; leaves in wind
Tumbling down some petty lane you
Dare not go
I never touched the things
They said I did,
That I was guilty anyway
And all the hours on your back porch
People whispering at the windows
Saying, I would not amount to much
And all the rap I took for you
Were standing, protesting
Your innocence
Chorus
