    Story Behind the Song
    Music and Lyrics - Bud

Written in my house, my living room and bedroom

Recorded at my house with one microphone and a computer employing GoldWave, two days to lay down the music and two days to lay down the vocals

This song is the first real Altered Statesmen song, lyrically most certainly. The first I've recorded. I'm hesitant to tell you exactly what inspired this song, because that's not cool to plant ideas in your head of how to interpret it. You figure out what it means, because you'll be right, don't worry. It's not a contest.

Oh, and can you figure out where that opening sample comes from?

    Lyrics
You want to go a little further
A little further than you've been
    You want a new emancipation
You want another kind of sin
You want to take it to the next step
And then about a hundred more
You want to get some more attention
Not even sure just why it's for

I don't think you know yourself
    Judging by your fear
I don't think you show yourself
    Not as you appear
    To be
What is this face I see?
I'd like to meet you someday....

You down another glass of High Life
And say how high your life has been
    A sneer, a smirk, a skewered angle
No telling who you might run into
And you go on and on and on and on
And on and on and on again
And in between your stirring tales
You stir a glass of deception

I don't think you know yourself
    Judging by your fear
I don't think you show yourself
    Not as you appear
    To be
What is this face I see?
I'd like to meet you someday
    Let's take a holiday
You have to know all you are
    Is never very far
    From a false patriarch
    Or a hollow movie star

But, I've looked in your eyes
I've seen through all the lies
    You've got another chance here
    You've got another try
All you have to do is take it
    Make your life your own
