Story Behind the Song
I wsa driving to work one morning a year or so ago, listening to something on the car stereo. I have long since forgotten the piece I was listening to, but at one point it sounded like the singer said "the sandman's daughter". I mean, that's not really what he said, but it stayed in my head, and I ended up writing this song.
Lyrics
She's the sandman's daughter, won't carry on her daddy's work. She'd rather hang out on the beach, listen to the roar of the surf.
Don't wanna learn the business; she's always known the score.
Don't wanna put no one to sleep; that's not what she's here for
Daddy says it's a job and someone has to do it
She says it's not for me and I always knew it.
The sandman has a problem; he doesn't have a son
He sits alone and wonders how his business will get done.
When he's too old and feeble to make his midnight creep, how the hell will we all get to sleep?
