Story Behind the Song
This song is Charlie's take on all the violence taking place in the schools. The first drafts were writen shortly after the Colubine shootings.
The second verse in particular speaks out on parental uninvolvement. Give them money and things instead of time and love.
Some performance notes: For as simple as it sounds, keeping the unison thing, at the right tempo, with the right syncopation can sometimes be tricky. Drummers seem to have a hard time. As for the bass and guitars, the fingerings can be very tiring after 4 or 5 hours in the studio.
Lyrics
Homicide Child
Keep your cool with the angry young man,
Lovin' you is not in his plan.
He got a gun,
He wants t' shoot down all his pain.
Bodies start fallin',
It's his claim to fame.
From the chill in his heart
to the thrill in his mind,
Its a sign of the times, American times.
Keep in mind, He's lost all his soul.
Mom & Dad destroyed it some time ago.
He gets the feeling from them too,
thats what I say.
They don't care!
All they know is what they own.
From the chill in his heart
to the thrill in his mind,
Its a sign of the times,
He's a Homicide Child.
Load 'em up!
Tell me somethin' man,
Make me understand
Is this all for real?
Is this the Promised Land?
Is this who we are?
Racin' to get far
From a boy and a gun and his emotional scars
Keep in mind, He's lost all his soul.
Mom & Dad destroyed it some time ago.
He gets the feeling from them too,
thats what I say.
They don't care!
All they know is what they own.
What they bought or they sold.
From the chill in his heart
to the thrill in his mind,
He's a Homicide Child.
