Story Behind the Song
Scullsoup is a blend of ska, hardcore, punk, and a whole lot of “what the hell was that?” - Think Primus, Bad Brains, Fishbone, Bad Religion, etc. - energetic, modern, and unmistakably original - all directions at once.
Granted most hardcore punk music does not come from a sterile environment such as the rural southeast - its traditionally more of an urban inner city product. However, the mind numbing boredom of such an isolated existence has created Scullsoup.
Lead singer, Vanbuscar, can be likened to a knobby kneed Rollins rolling around onstage. Lyrics about everyday life, full of satire and wit, are delivered with a gritty throat. Visine’s guitar wizardry is a variety of styles meshed into chaotic chord progressions and intense confident leads. Slapnuts’ aggressive bass sound has machine-like precision and subsonic resonance while Tartool’s drumming drives the band into overdrive like a rhino on crack.
Formed some years ago and now grown to maturity - they have shared the stage with notable acts such as Public Enemy, Everlast, NOFX, and Southern Culture on the Skids - Scullsoup are blowing the minds as well as ear drums of every crowd they play for.
“Scullsoup reminds us that real rock is still alive in this world of generic over produced shit.”
94.3 FM Extreme Radio; Knoxville, TN
“Being fond of mayhem, I would have to list it as one of the best shows of the year”
Tom Tollison; Knoxville Daily Beacon
