Together with Jessica's warm and rich vocals one could liken to that of Cher or Madonna, "Are You Really Here?" is a commercially produced modern pop/dance song with a touch of melodic style reminiscent to 1980's Euro-Pop acts like New Order and Erasure.

    Story Behind the Song
"Are You Really Here?" is a song about a person reconciling with the mortal and spiritual perceptions of life after death and the loss of a loved one. It's about the sense of knowing, feeling the essence of a soul around, without having a physical confirmation that they are there, but an emotional and spiritual one that they are indeed around you.

I wrote the main melody and lyrics to this song a couple weeks before the September 11th attacks and afterwards found it remarkably uncanny the way this song described and perhaps depicted the feelings of thousands of people around the world who were now dealing with a profound sense of loss in life and love.

I do however believe that people can find solace and peace in the fact that despite the physical separation of death each one of us is intricately linked and eternally bonded by spirit with those we love for this lifetime and beyond. This song only confirms that by saying that sometimes we must put aside what our physical eyes cannot see and put trust into what our heart and soul are internally sensing and feeling. Death is only a temporary separation, not an eternal one.

    Lyrics
    VERSE ONE
    Your image is before me
Like a hologram to my eyes
You've hidden yourself so well before
But now you leave on no disguise
I have so much to ask you
What's it like where you've been?
    I thought you were dead
How did you manage to come alive again?

    CHORUS
Am I just seeing what I want to see?
Are You Really Here in this room with me?
Am I just feeling what I want to feel?
How can I know if your touch is real?
How can I know if you're really here
    with me now?

    VERSE TWO
    I've kept your memory alive
With remnants of photographs of our life
I keep thinking of how you made me feel
And how our love was once so real
There are still some things I needed to hear from you
But we never really had a chance to bid adieu

    REPEAT CHORUS

    BRIDGE
I just wanted to see your face one last time
To hear your voice speaking to mine
Confirming to me that you'll always be there
Even when I can't see you'll always care

    REPEAT CHORUS

    AD LIB
