Story Behind the Song
"Sarva mangalam", from the Sanskrit, is one of the most beautiful and ancient "mantras" that exists: "may all beings be happy". With the soul in a state of deepness, it faces, respectively, North, South, East, West, Zenith and Nadir, declaiming these pure words of great beauty and altruism. Alexandra David-Neel, an explorer and Buddhist, used to declaim this mantra from the heights of the Himalayas during her trips through Tibet to enter Lhassa City, between 1921-1926. It was in her enchanting books that Vasco Martins came across these words that inspired him to write this symphony.
