The first movement of a three movement work for String Quartet. Moving Forward explores a highly personalized minimalist style, that is very much dynamic in reference to structure, pitch material, and musical gestures. |

Story Behind the Song
Composed in the fall of 2000, this string quartet is contains a great deal of minimal qualities, yet at the same time looked forward as the first notions of the maximalist style are evident ... especially within Moving Foward, this first movement. Interestingly enough I wrote the first movement last, the second movement first, and the third movement second! Though the first movement is beautiful and is, from an academic standpoint, of greater importance for its embodyment of maximalistic style, I feel that it was the third movement which was the most stunning and of the greatest success.
