This is a solid driving tune. The lyrics are very positive, and have a message that most people that were adults in the twentieth century will relate to, a very positive way of rejecting getting bogged down in personal blues. Also has some interesting musical changes

    Story Behind the Song
The musical structure of On My Own shaped itself in a groove and progressing I "discovered" while playing around on the keyboard, purshing for some sort of "breakthrough" on an instrument that I was relatively new to. The concept/message/story in the lyrics is drawn from my personal life, but somehow, the music somehow suggested to me what direction/theme for the lyrics should be. Once I had the idea for the lyrics, they came rapidly, and were roughed out in a bout a half hour. If I count the hours I noodled around on the keyboard developing the groove and my ability to play it, On my own took quite a few more hours to finish/record, than my normal marathon sessions, and I had to leave it for a couple of days before I could get back to it.

    Lyrics
    On My Own
© 2003 by Bill McClarty – All rights Reserved

I don’t have a lot of fancy things,
No luxury car or diamond rings,
But I like the comfort that my life brings,
    Today

You know I’ve got a little peace of mind,
It wasn’t very easy for me to find.
I try to leave all the bad things behind,
    Far away.

I put in my time, and I’ve paid my dues,
So I can finally follow the path I choose
And I feel so good when I sing the Blues
And the music I love to play.

Even when I’m up all night,
I let it all out and don’t get uptight,
I feel so good when the music’s just right.
    Done my way

I’d like to share my pleasure with you,
When I’ve just made a song that’s new.
There’s nothing better I can do,
    Or say.

I found that I’m able to stand alone,
If I never tried, I never would have known.
That I can get through my life on my own,
Is that something you can say?.

It’s not a question of wrong or right,
It’s not a matter of day or night,
You just have to keep your goal in sight,
    Come what may.

It’s up to you if you want to pursue,
I know I’m not telling you something new.
No one else knows what’s right for you,
    Despite what they say.

Just let me go on, my own way,
Whatever may come with each new day.
I only have so much time to stay,
    Before I go away
