Story Behind the Song
This song was inspired when I took a stroll down Hollywood Blvd., and saw a lot of runnaway teenagers doing whatever it took to survive, including Prostitution.
The Lyrics are about hope.
Lyrics
YOU CAN STOP by William Bryant Jr.
(spoken intro).. Here in America, we have a situation on our hands. With thousands and thousands of countless Teenagers on the street. That’s been used and abused. They’ve been selling their bodies, trying to stay afloat, trying to survive. We must change our society, we must stand up because no child should be on the streets. We got to give them a chance, we’ve got to give us a chance.
A lonely girl stand on the corner just turning tricks,
This how her life has ended.
She didn’t know that she had a chance, she left her home
And here family,
Turned her out at the age of 10,
She didn’t know when life begins,
Now that she got her own money see, her John is here and she’s gone…
(Chorus) YOU CAN STOP YOU CAN STOP
GIVE YOU SELF A CHANCE.
When she’s done
She jumps out the car and she hurries home.
She stops at the store just to buy some food.
Her babies at home and their hungry now, yes they’re crying now.
And she knows that she, she is the only one that they have.
She’s twenty now and she’s up for grabs.
Her baby is ten , now she’s looking slick, what the hell is this, and she’s gone….
YOU CAN STOP YOU CAN STOP
GIVE YOUR SELF A CHANCE.
(Bridge) ZOOM, I’M ON MY WAY TO THE MOON,
(RAP) OZONE been watching a lot of struggles thru time,
Fed up but like Shiqule, keep your head up.
Already burnt out, never made to your prime.
It seems you neglected to learn to keep your dreams alive.
You already got a piece of the puzzle,
You already got a muscle for the hustle.
But you to busy trying to tussle
with all these daily life issues.
I wish you would understand,
You can make a change, give your self a chance.
And understand this life you’re living is a daily dance.
You playing games with faith that you know you can’t win.
Making mistakes over and over again.
I hope you understand you got a friend,
And till the end you can see me, and see my face.
And understand you can’t escape faith ,
But you can change and erase and recreate your mind.
And keep it real at all times and all rhymes and all minds
And don’t forget.
(Chorus) YOU CAN STOP, YOU CAN STOP
GIVE YOUR SELF A CHANCE
