Story Behind the Song
No matter how hard things life gets sometimes, the moral is that we get through it. This track was written in my bedroom on my guitar. I recorded it in a 'proper' studio and got my friend 'Ying Tien' to play along on drums. I over-dubbed the rest. I then submitted it for a recording assignment at university. It took roughly ten hours to record and 200 hours to edit, arrange and mix. There were four takes originally, of the drummer and myself playing bass. the rest was added later.
Lyrics
And When I Lay Down My Head
Verse 1:
What I want is what I need, I'm gonna go and get it,
No matter how hard it is to do for me.
I'm turning round, not backing down, I won't give in,
I'm here for the ride, might as well get used to it.
Chorus:
And When I Lay down my head,
I question my dignity,
And when my eyes are getting red,
I wonder if I can see.
Verse 2:
Now and then I seem to think, It's all above me,
It's what I love, what I do, need to get into it.
I love my pain, I love my job, I love my girlfriend,
She's all I got that doesn't try and go and leave me.
Verse 3:
This is it, the break has come, don't mess it up now,
The lion's biting at my heals and I don't like it.
I'm nearly there, one more line and I'm through,
I knew I could do it, just tryin' to trick you.
