    Story Behind the Song
As with many, this song was written predominantly in the College 8 DL study lounge. :o) When I wrote this song, I was rather confused about a few things that were happening in my life, and they all sort of fell into the song. I first received some "tough love" advice from a friend who essentially told me to get over it, or let go. He told me that everyone had problems, and that I needed to let go of mine, because they were already over with, and not worth dwelling on. A little later, I received a more gentle dose of advice from one of my favorite Gamma Phi girls, and this talk inspired a great deal of the lyrics. She helped me to see that some people and conflicts are simply not worth your time. It's often the most difficult thing to do, but you really just have to let go...

    Lyrics
    Let Go
    Lani Trock 2003

A few wise words from a friend
They told me to begin with loving myself
    Stop being so melodramatic
Damn you sound like an addict
    To some unattainable drug
The world is full of boys
And they all have their ploys
    But they are only people
    Some will make you laugh
    Some will make you cry
    But know you'll get by

    If you can
    Learn to let go
    Of everything so
    You'll be happy
    No one's rainin
    On your parade
    It's in your power
    Life is a flower
    It's a gift to you
    And don't let it
    Go to waste
    But know
    You've just begun to taste

    All the bittersweet fruits
    Your life will throw you
    Cuz you never know who
    Is coming your way
    Today your friends joined
    Gamma Phi Beta and you
    Hate the idea
Of a friendship that's quarterly paid
And even when disgusting tofu scramble juice
    Just splashes all over you
You still know you'll last the day

    If you can
    Learn to let go
    Of everything so
    You'll be happy
    No one's rainin
    On your parade
    It's in your power
    Life is a flower
    It's a gift to you
    And don't let it
    Go to waste
And we'll be ready for each brand new day

A few wise words from a friend
    Told me not to pretend
    To just be myself
Keep friends and family I love by my side
The rest are not worth my time
    They'll only make me cry

    But I can
    Learn to let go
    Of everything so
    I'll be happy
    No one's rainin
    On my parade
    It's in my power
    This is my flower
    It's a gift to you
    And don't let it
    Go to waste
And we'll be ready for each brand new day
