    Story Behind the Song
    "Ekaneetlee Sunrise" is about a
    place my dad
found while hiking in the Great
    Smokies of
    East Tennessee along the
    "Ekaneetlee Gap-Trail" area. He
    loved the site so much
he hired "Kirby", a local artist
to capture the site on canvas.
    Kirby's interpretation
of the site is very fascinating.
    No matter
how many times you see the painting,
    there is always something new
and different about it. I was a
    small child when the painting
    was first displayed on the
    living-room wall of our
    modest home. I remember the
stories he used to tell about
the history of the Smokies and
    it was through those discussions
    with my dad that
    I first learned about
    "The Trail Of Tears"
    and the Cherokee Nation.
    I visited the site
    along with my dad when
    I was in my early
    teens. It was a difficult
    hike, but well
    worth the effort !
I hope you enjoy the song.

    Lyrics
    "Ekaneetlee Sunrise"

    verse 1
    He likes to watch the
    Ekaneetlee sunrise comin' up
    while he's sippin' from his
    favorite starry-starry cup
    golden glow between the trees
    mountain laurel on the breeze

    chorus
    The Ekaneetlee sunrise never fades
    never a line and no
    admission at the gate
    ev'ry mornins' a surprise
    softly painted on the sky

    verse 2
    He'll show you a place
between the branches of the trees
    as he tells forgotten
    stories of the Cherokee
you can see "The Trail Of Tears"
hear them fallin' in your ears

    repeat chorus

    verse 3
He saw the shadow of an eagle
    at the water's edge
    he saw a feather floatin'
    softly on a river-bed
he said "the eagle's only friend
is the kindness of the wind"

    repeat chorus

    instrumental fade
