Track Details - Dance orientated track with sequenced bass, 1950s guitar reverb, pseudo latin electric piano, theremin squeals and a good portion of overdriven guitar. A pulsing river of sound over which floats a serene voice.

Story Behind the Song
This came from a moment looking down into the River Trent. The water is deep and treacherous. What if you were to throw yourself in? But what if the water was warm and supported you, swept you away from trouble and pain and on to a new life? What if you could also manipulate the current, get to somewhere you wanted to be?
And so the river became a metaphor for fate, for the passage of time. Bad times and good times - neither are forever, fate will move us on. But we are not simply powerless before fate, we can effect change – "some of the flow is always in your hands."
After writing the song (there were a few different incarnations), it was recorded over a period of about 2 months on and off. The hardest bit was programming my drum machine to act as a sequencer for my old 1980s synth. It's bonkers and very lo-tech!
Lyrics
River
The water is moving quickly
You can be carried elsewhere
The river can take you better places
Where you are now is not forever
(chorus)
Watching the river flow
Just watching
Watching river flow
Just watching
Why watch the river flow when you can swim
Watching the river flow
Still watching?
Gentle supporting
Will let you tumble a little
But you can ride on mighty curves
Some of the flow is always in your hands
Try to enjoy twisting into new shapes
You will be transported by your will
And by happy accidents
(repeat chorus)
Where will it take you?
And what does it matter?
No use in asking
There is no answer
Gentle supporting, tumble a little
Trust the water, the flowing water
(repeat chorus)
