	Story Behind the Song Ever read The Great Gatsby? If not, you should. It's fabulous. And, this probably won't make too much sense to you if you haven't. so educate yourself! and then read on! SO, there's this one image that I love. Gatsby gets himself ready to meet Daisy again as this all-powerful man. This takes years, but the whole time he stares out across the bay (maybe not a bay, but definetly a body of water of some sort). He stares out at this blinking green light at the end of her dock knowing that she is right there all along. Just that one light is enough to give him hope and reason and it's everything he's waiting for and i think that's a really great image. That and the tiny green light on my computer blinks all night and it really annoys me...but that's a different story all together. Really. I swear. Lyrics you're the green light blinking at the end of the dock that i kept my hopes up for you're the ghost of a dream so long ago that i could not remember anything more than a shadow of words on the page and a dull ache behind my rib cage and all that time i was replacing something real with my love of stars and that hollow pain found at midnight watching falling snow in the dark but i was wrong i thought i knew what truth is but the truth is i did not know you you're the ideal i gave up on so long ago when i started to think all this talk was just talk and love was just a scapegoat for the battle scars found with age and the faint beat behind the rib cage and all that time i was replacing something real with my love of stars but i did not know then what i know now no i did not know then what i know now that i was wrong i thought i knew what truth is but the truth is i did not know you you're the green light blinking at the end of the dock that i kept my hopes up for
