Story Behind the Song
The lyrics to this song date back to the mid-70s. I watched an episode of "Wild Kingdom" where Marlin Perkins asttemped to debunk the whole "Yeti" business. I was moved to write this song, which has undergone radical changes in the ensuing years.
Lyrics
INTRO
Way before "Animal Planet"; long before "Discovery", I used to watch Marlin Perkins, 'til he told those lies to me.
He said there was no Yeti, up in the moutains so high. My brain turned to spaghetti, and this was my reply:
The way you said ther was no Yeti - I can believe it's really true. Is it just because you never saw one in a zoo?
The way you said there was no Yeti, I think it sounded awfully odd. Just between you and me, Marlin Perkins isn't God.
Marlin Perkins left the building, don't that make you feel sad - just goes to show Mutual of Omaha can't protect you from eveything bad.
I hope Marlin's up there somewhere maybe he's laughin' down at me. As to whether I'm right or I'm wron, maybe someday I'll see.
I'll be up there with you Marlin in that Wild Kingdom in the sky, but if I find out that there's no Yeti, I still won't know why.
I think I'm goin' to Tibeti, I might be leavin' in the fall. And if I don't find a Yeti, I won't be comin' back at all.
