Story Behind the Song
I Wrote this song approx. 1998 but changed the lyrics slightly to better reflect recent life-changing personal depression/mid-life crisis situation. This song originally just fell out of the pen. Small nod to Neil Young reference in chorus. Was told it sounds like a bastard child-of-a-song which might have been created by an unholy union between Bob Dylan and Neil Diamond. Go figure.
Lyrics
Too Drunk 2 Dream
There's some men, get everything
They ever dreamed of in their lives.
While nations of sons and daughters,
Struggle everday to survive.
And when you look in my eyes,
Before I say goodnight,
If you wonder why I'm sleepin' restless, Baby,
It's because I'm too drunk to dream.
Goin' so well, keeps fallin' into place
No matter what you do, you can't lose.
Just ridin' on your wave of hopes and wishes,
Watchin' it all come true.
I hear yer sittin' back, in some million dollar shack,
Drinkin' fine whiskey and cream.
Knowin' any go-getter, feels a whole lot better,
When he's got himself too drunk to dream.
CH
Too drunk to dream about anything,
Just like a miner who's found his gold.
Too drunk to dream about all the things,
You’ll never have or never will hold.
Now ups and downs I've heard them say,
Is just a nat’ral part of it all.
Some are too scared to walk near the edge,
So sit there, worried crazy 'bout the fall.
When she says that she's had a bad day,
And she won’t pay no mind to you.
Know in your heart she'll be there every mornin',
'Cause buddy, she's too drunk to dream.
Gitter solo, 2 X Chorus out.
