Story Behind the Song
Except for the instrumental leads in the later half of the song, the music was written well before the words. Sometimes you just have to wait for the ideas to blow into your head. But even in the early stages of writing the music, I had a vague idea of what it would be about. Aeolus is the Greek god of the winds. However, I my lyrical story, we discover that Aeolus is not a god, but "akin to angelic forces." Fictitiously, I think of him as a leader among the one true God's ministers of creation.
Lyrics
CAPTAIN AEOLUS
Words and Music by John Klemesrud © 1990
At the dawn of creation
Aeolus led the wind.
Akin to angelic forces,
he formed the atmosphere from within.
He filled the voids between expanses,
and lifted clouds above the sea.
And once the earth was in balance,
he set the wind to blow free.
Captain Aeolus
soared across the sky.
led storms through the mountains,
taught the eagles to fly.
Captain Aeolus
whistled through the trees,
down through the valley,
and moved across the sea.
The seeds of life blew across the earth,
and multiplied throughout the land.
Aeolus guarded fragile birth,
and hurled against suppressing hands.
He patrolled the shores and stormed the castles.
He guided ships across the sea.
And once the earth was in balance,
he set the wind to blow free.
Captain Aeolus
soared across the sky.
led storms through the mountains,
taught the eagles to fly.
Captain Aeolus
whistled through the trees,
down through the valley,
and moved across the sea.
